Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long have you honestly had chronic pain, and what are your real treatment goals? Things are not usually “fixed” in one session or even in a few sessions. If you’ve had chronic pain for a long time, is it realistic to think you’ll be better in a session or two? Your SYMPTOMS can certainly start to feel better quickly, but if you really want to find and release the CAUSE of your pain, that is an investment in yourself. The power of myofascial release is that we can go beyond symptoms to find and release the cause of your pain – and that is the goal we hold for you. The body has its own timeline for healing. Our job is to keep showing up for the process and listen to what the body has to say. If you trust the process, myofascial release can change your life.

  • No, we do not accept insurance.

However, we can provide a receipt and documentation of services provided if you would like to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

  • Our therapist is fully vaccinated and boosted, and wears a mask during all treatments. The treatment room has two air filters, at least one of which is going all the time. The treatment room is properly cleaned between clients and fresh linens are provided for each treatment session.

  • Yes! When you schedule your appointment, choose “Reserve without Paying.” You’ll still provide a credit card to complete the reservation, but your card won’t be charged at this time. At the end of your first treatment, you can decide whether to purchase a package or pay for the one treatment.

  • Please wear loose shorts and a sports bra/loose tank top (if applicable) for your treatment. Please do NOT wear oils, lotions, or scented products.

  • Your 75-minute appointment includes 60 minutes of MFR treatment plus 15 minutes outside of this to discuss your goals, how you are feeling, answer questions, etc. You don’t have to worry that time spent talking is cutting into your treatment, or if you are a minute or two late.

  • Yes! There are two elevators in the building, and our office is located on the 4th floor. There are handicap parking spaces near the door to the parking lot, as well as bathrooms near the elevators on both the main floor and 4th floor.

  • Weekly treatments are the most effective to help you meet your goals. You can also schedule appointments twice a week if you would like to reach your goals faster!

  • We accept credit and debit cards, venmo, cash, and gift certificates.

  • Nope! Our pricing is set so that clients do not need to tip. In fact, when you pay with credit card there isn’t even an option to tip. If you pay with Venmo or cash, please do not add any additional tip.

  • Clients must cancel or reschedule their appointment with at least 48-hours notice or they will be charged the full amount of the treatment. No shows will also be charged the full amount. One exception to the 48-hour rule is clients who test positive for COVID or come down with a serious sickness – we will work with you to reschedule and appreciate your transparency.

  • You will receive a health form via email after you schedule your appointment. You can fill it out ahead of time, or please arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill it out a paper copy in the office.

  • There are many ways that you can make your treatment sessions more effective:

Let your therapist know if a technique produces a sensation or referred pain in a different location in the body; that area should be treated as well.

If a technique is too much, let your therapist know right away so they can make it less intense or stop entirely.

While the therapist is working, it helps to breathe into the area where work is being done, and put all of your awareness on the inside of your body to imagine that area having more space in it.

If you have emotions or memories come up, let yourself experience them to release them – you can choose to share them with your therapist or keep them to yourself and either is fine.

Lastly, consider not socializing during your treatment – myofascial release is more beneficial if both the therapist and client focus solely on the work at hand!

  • We offer an MFR Treatment Package in which you buy 6 treatments and save $250. Packages are intended for clients that invest in themselves by committing to weekly treatment. Packages MUST BE USED IN SIXTY (60) DAYS, and also must be scheduled within 1-2 days of purchase.

  • If you want to purchase a package, do that BEFORE scheduling your individual appointments. After you complete the purchase, you will be sent a code. You will use that unique code to book your appointments from the website, or from the direct link included in your email receipt.

  • MFR Treatment Packages must be used in 60 days. A package is best used when you schedule one or two treatments per week. We also request that you book all 6 treatments upon purchase so that you can schedule them at times that work for you. If you cannot use a package in 60 days, it is better to continue to book individual treatments – you are welcome to book several at a time because our schedule does fill up.

  • A good tool that you might choose to use at home is called the “CranioCradle” and you can find it online. We have one in the office if you’d like to see or try it.

  • After most treatments you’ll feel improvement. Some clients feel improvement right away and some after a day or two goes by. Occasionally however, you may feel worse after a treatment. This is not a cause for alarm and doesn’t mean that anything has gone wrong! These flare ups of new or old discomfort might be the body releasing to a deeper level of restriction and healing; it might be that we arrived at a new “cause” of your pain as opposed to the “symptoms” that we had been previously treating. We encourage you to celebrate this progress, let yourself feel what’s going on, and tell your therapist about it at your next session – this is very important to your healing and we are here to help! This event is often called a “healing crisis” in MFR articles and books. Your therapist has experienced several herself as an MFR client; even though they may have been intense, they all led to great improvements in her own healing from her previous car accidents.

  • During MFR treatments, you might experience something called “unwinding.” This is when your body might move involuntarily – for instance, your fingers wiggle or your foot/leg twitches, but you didn’t intentionally make them move. This spontaneous movement is your body’s fascial system self-correcting, and is very helpful to the healing process. We encourage you to let this process happen if it does – not to shut it down. Unwinding can take many forms, although you can’t “make” it happen. It’s also completely fine if you don’t have an unwinding!

  • We highly recommend two books in particular: “A Patient’s Guide to Understanding Myofascial Release” by Cathy Covell and “Myofascial Release: Healing Ancient Wounds” by John F. Barnes, P.T.

  • Clients are very welcome to explore self-treatment, and to talk about it with your MFR therapist. A great resource is: “Comprehensive Myofascial Self Treatment: Your Path to Authentic Healing and Pain Relief” by Joyce Karnis Patterson.

  • While we do not provide these therapies directly, myofascial release certainly can support the work you are doing with another practitioner. Where are emotions and physical sensations showing up in the body? Bring that to your MFR session and we can work through releasing those areas of the body to help you achieve your goals.

  • Yes! Beginning in May 2023 we will provide MFR treatment sessions for babies. More information will be available soon.
